Number 1 school in Derbyshire!

St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby has recently been voted as the number one school in Derbyshire in The Real Schools Guide 2020, which aims to give a far more comprehensive picture of educational standards than traditional league tables.

The Guide takes into account 45 different elements, including KS2 results as well as factors like progress, pupil-teacher ratios and absence rates.

Currently, 350 children attend St Mary’s CVA from Nursery up to Year 6. Of these, 52% are children with English as an Additional Language, 23% Pupil Premium and 15% are on the SEND register. This indicates our children come from a broad and diverse background.

There are approximately 410 schools in Derbyshire and to be nominated as the best, followed closely by English Martyrs in Long Eaton – a wonderful celebration for both schools within our Trust, is a massive achievement which we are delighted to receive.

To be voted as the best performing school in the area is a credit to the hard work both pupils and staff give. From kitchen to admin staff, Leadership, Teachers and Learning Ambassador’s, we are all committed to ensuring that every child receives a ‘world class’ Catholic education by developing the whole child in genuine partnership with our wonderfully supportive parents.

As stated in the Executive Headteacher’s welcome, our school vision is to educate children in the spirit of the Gospel Values and the traditions of the Catholic Church nurturing the talents and potential of each individual.  St. Mary’s aims to provide a community where everyone is valued for their own individual talents and personality. We love sharing our experiences with each other in our Celebration Assemblies. We work together to achieve high standards and high expectations in terms of teaching and children’s learning, behaviour and standards of achievement; a place where children, staff, parents and community can come together to learn, to share, to grow and make a positive difference to themselves and others.
