First Reconciliation & Holy Communion Programme

Catholic children in Year 3 and above are generally considered ready to begin a preparation programme to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

St Mary’s School works closely alongside St Mary’s, Holy Family and Christ the King Parishes to support parents in preparing their children to receive the Sacraments. This school/church/home partnership recognises that it is parents/carers who play the most crucial role in ensuring their children truly appreciate the richness and significance of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.

The St Mary’s/Holy Family/Christ the King preparation programme begins in November, with the children receiving First Holy Communion in the following May. It involves the children attending lessons during the 9am Mass at St Mary’s or the 9.30am Mass at Holy Family (Christ the King children are invited to join with either parish). Parents are expected to attend evening meetings via Zoom, organised by the Parish, which aim to support them in preparing their children.
