First Reconciliation & Holy Communion Programme

Catholic children in Year 3 and above are generally considered ready to begin a preparation programme to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

St Mary’s School works closely alongside St Ralph Sherwin Parish to support parents in preparing their children to receive the Sacraments. This school/church/home partnership recognises that it is parents/carers who play the most crucial role in ensuring their children truly appreciate the richness and significance of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.

The preparation programme is held at St Mary’s Church and begins in November, with the children receiving First Holy Communion the following May. It involves the children alternating weekly between attending lessons during the 9am Mass at St Mary’s and being in the whole Mass the next week. Parents are expected to attend evening meetings, organised by the Parish, which aim to support them in preparing their children.

The programme is administered through the Parish not the School. Registration forms are available from October each year from Fran Hazel. For more information please contact fran.hazel@dioceseofnottingham.uk or Tel: 07951 143648 (Fran Hazel)
